What makes a prospect know that you value them? Taking Notes (Including Action items)


Most of the books relating to sales build on the key factor of establishing a trust between the prospect and you; and a large percentage of this attributes to the first impression and understanding the needs of the customers. I would like to continue on the second impression when you are discussing with them (face to face or on the phone).

[Action Item]: Think about how you gather information about client's needs and also how you manage the information. What methods do you employ, to ensure gathering the best information for maximizing the chances of a sale?

One of the key ingredients is taking notes while discussing with a customer. Even though everybody knows about this, very few employ it. Now do you see the benefit of doing this?


1. Prospects understand that you value their information, when you pull out your pen and a notepad.
2. Prospects talk more when you start writing notes.
3. It avoids forgetting important information and also helps you to develop ideas and proposals to better satisfy your customer's needs.
4. Personally, I love for a customer to let them talk uninterrupted, and what better way to do this than listening and take notes?
5. Finally, when I make a sale or even lose a sale, I can go back and analyze why and also what I could have done differently to improve. Doesn't this introspection give way for improving our success?
6. Wouldn't you love to capture the keywords, phrases and ideas of customers, and use them in future discussions and follow-ups?

[Action Item]: If you have not in the habit of taking notes when discussing with a customer, please do it.
